Another popular area is Meadowood Park, offering kayak launch sites which provide access to the wildly popular 88-mil Coal River Flatwater Trail system.

Located just north of downtown, Coonskin Park provides 1,000 acres of family-friendly recreation, including walking trails, pedal boats, disc golf, tennis courts and even an 18-hole golf course. It's an ideal place to relax, play, and explore.

Charleston’s cycling community is growing rapidly thanks to advocacy from Bike Charleston and WV Pedal Pals. In fact, it has been dubbed, “Bike City USA.” You can find organized group rides, mural bike tours, and plenty of cycling-friendly streets and trails throughout the city. Mountain bikers will love the single-track challenges in Kanawha State Forest, while casual riders enjoy the scenic stretches along the Elk and Kanawha Rivers.
